Cats were treated with Veraflox® tablets or 2.5% oral suspension at and above the respectively recommended oral dose of 3 mg/kg or 5 mg/kg body weight once daily, for different treatment intervals and adequate periods of time (19-24). Parameters for safety evaluation included i.e. body weight, food consumption, daily clinical observations, physical examinations, haematology, clinical chemistry, urinalysis, vision examinations, ophthalmological examinations and pupillary light reflexes.
For both formulations, suspension and tablet, the duration of dosing (21-22 days) exceeded the maximum recommended dosing period of 7 days. Thus, the tolerance of pradofloxacin has been demonstrated for a sufficient period of time in excess of the recommended maximum duration of use, at multiples of the respectively highest recommended dose rate.
The administration of Veraflox® tablets and 2.5% suspension at the recommended oral dose of respectively 3 mg/kg or 5 mg/kg body weight once daily demonstrated to be safe in six week-old kittens as well as in adult cats.
